This is a movie that could be labeled a
vehicle...as in "a Katharine Hepburn vehicle." In other words, this movie
revolves around Hepburn -- her performance and her screen
presence. She literally owns this small story about an American schoolteacher
who travels alone to Venice to experience a little life. It's a beautiful tale
that starts off a bit tragically, as you
realize how she tries to cover her loneliness, but ends triumphantly.
