You probably won't see this movie on too many
other movie lists...but you know what, it's a shame. Because this is a
wonderful little story about a gifted child and his
just slightly white-trash mother. Jodie Foster is a genius. Some of her
directing choices are a little strange, but I still love this movie. The trashy
mother is constantly told that someone else (someone
smarter) could take better care of her son. The story plays out nicely,
reminding you that we all need our mothers -- no matter what.
Dianne Wiest has a truly amazing talent
to wear her heart on her sleeve when she performs. In fact, she appears in more
than one movie on my top list. There's something about her that really adds
depth to a movie. The child actor, Adam Hann-Byrd,
also adds warmth and heart to this movie.
If you have never seen this movie, go rent
it. You won't be disappointed.
