Perhaps you think I'm joking...but I'm not! I
absolutely adore this movie. I've seen it countless times, I have it on
laserdisc, I saw it in the theatre over and over,
I have the poster on my wall. I simply love it. It's funny, it's sweet and the
music is fabulous.
Even though the competition was stiff in 1991, it
was my pick for Best
Picture. It lost out to Silence of the Lambs (which is not even comparable to
this flick), but it was also up against Bugsy and The Prince of Tides. So
you're talking Warren Beatty and Barbra Streisand
-- and I STILL pick it as the best of that year. Although if Thelma & Louise
had been nominated (and it was a bloody tragedy that it wasn't) my vote may have
changed...but that's history and B&B remains
very high on my all-time list. Don't you just love Angela Landsbury? She's a
national treasure.
